While giving a victory speech Tuesday night after being elected to a third term as a DC Councilman, former DC Mayor Marion Barry told the assembled crowd that it’s important to get rid of the “dirty Asians” and their businesses:

“We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,” Barry said. “They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”

Not only should the Asians be removed from DC, but their presence (specifically, their business presence,) according to Barry, should be replaced by black residents.

No word yet from Al Sharpton about these racists remarks. APM will continue to monitor the situation closely, and report any response from Sharpton, Jackson or other “black” leaders here.

Barry was made a national punchline when, as Mayor, he was arrested in a drug sting operation and famously quipped, “(The) bitch set me up.”
