Tea Party Speaks, Lugar Out In Indiana

lugar

Proving wrong the leaders of the Progressive movement and the MSM, the Tea Party has rocked the political establishment by driving Republican Richard Mourdock to a primary victory in Indiana over 36 year incumbent Richard Lugar.

Lugar, the 80 year-old, six-term Senator, conceded to Mourdock early into the vote counting. Mourdock took 61% of the vote to Lugar’s 39%. In his concession, Lugar stated his hopes that Mourdock will win in November. However, a statement released by his campaign had a stinging rebuke of both Mourdock, and, by extension, the Tea Party: (emphasis mine)

I want to see a Republican elected President, and I want to see a Republican majority in the Congress. I hope my opponent wins in November to help give my friend Mitch McConnell a majority.

If Mr. Mourdock is elected, I want him to be a good Senator. But that will require him to revise his stated goal of bringing more partisanship to Washington. He and I share many positions, but his embrace of an unrelenting partisan mindset is irreconcilable with my philosophy of governance and my experience of what brings results for Hoosiers in the Senate. In effect, what he has promised in this campaign is reflexive votes for a rejectionist orthodoxy and rigid opposition to the actions and proposals of the other party. His answer to the inevitable roadblocks he will encounter in Congress is merely to campaign for more Republicans who embrace the same partisan outlook. He has pledged his support to groups whose prime mission is to cleanse the Republican party of those who stray from orthodoxy as they see it.

This is not conducive to problem solving and governance.

Those groups whose “prime mission is to cleanse the Republican party?” Lugar, of course, means the Tea Party. One wonders whether Lugar came up with these words on his own, or just crib them from Sens. Harry Reid (D-NV) or Chuck Schumer (D-NY)?

This is why Sen. Lugar is the now “lame duck” Sen. Lugar, and why the Tea Party is so very effective. When Lugar speaks of straying from “orthodoxy as they see it,” is he referring to the Constitution? The Constitution is not orthodoxy, it is the values of a nation. It is the blueprint that allows free people to live free, and provides for the people the opportunity to safeguard those freedoms.

Is he referring to fiscal responsibility? In Lugar’s statement, he stated: (emphasis mine)

Ultimately, the re-election of an incumbent to Congress usually comes down to whether voters agree with the positions the incumbent has taken. I knew that I had cast recent votes that would be unpopular with some Republicans and that would be targeted by outside groups.

These included my votes for the TARP program, for government support of the auto industry, for the START Treaty, and for the confirmations of Justices Sotomayor and Kagan.

It was apparent that these positions would be attacked in a Republican primary. But I believe that they were the right votes for the country, and I stand by them without regrets…

Those groups that would “target” Lugar for his votes? Just one – The Tea Party, and rightfully so! While others can argue the votes for Justices Sotomayor and Kagan (let’s see what happens with Obamacare, but no one can argue we knew far too little about Justice Kagan,) and for the START Treaty (an absolutely unnecessary agreement that hurts the United States with unwarranted formality, if not the full text of the treaty,) the Tea Party stands opposed to TARP, and to government spending. For the Tea Party, these are the votes that destroy a country. You Can Not Spend Your Way Into Prosperity!

For Lugar to admonish those who would be upset with these votes (which he stoically stands by) is elitist lunacy. The Tea Party has proven that its “orthodoxy” is nothing more than an adherence to the Constitution. The Tea Party will “target” those who engage in rampant misuse of the American People’s hard earned money. The Tea Party, regardless of the words of Reid or Schumer or Rep. Pelosi or MSNBC, has made a commitment to themselves, to America and to its future which is unshakable. The Tea Party is alive and well.

Congratulations to Richard Mourdock. Congratulations to the Tea Party. Bring on November! There are 181 days until the election.

The Rush To Race Is Ridiculous

Herman Cain

Over the weekend, businessman and presidential candidate Herman Cain won the Florida Straw Poll with a very convincing 37% of the vote.  He more than doubled his nearest challenger, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and third place finisher, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Quickly, all the usual suspects weighed in on the significance of Cain’s victory. Much of the commentary focused on race. That GOP delegates in order to prove the party (and the Tea Party) isn’t racist, pushed Cain over the top.

Wrong.  Is the establishment GOP really that interested in proving to a hate-filled Progressive minority that they are good people who should be liked?  Are there members of the Tea Party who actually believe that Sen. Boxer, Sen. Schumer, Michael Moore, Janeane Garofalo, Rep. Frank or others will like them because they voted for a black man?

Cain’s strong win in the straw poll is not about race, it’s about Cain!

Cain offers specific solutions.  His “999″ Plan has taken hold; he is serious about reducing taxes. They see this in the shadow of President Obama’s $1.5 Trillion tax increase, and his continued attacks on productive society.

People have been leery – disgusted! – with Obamacare.  They have heard all the talk about the need to repeal, or at the very least, to defund Obamacare.  The personal story of Cain’s fight with Stage 4 colon cancer hit home with voters. They can visualize what their lives will be like under socialized medicine. Cain is alive because of an unencumbured health care system, where patients and doctors work towards success.  Cain is clear: He would be dead under Obamacare.  America was listening.

There have been some who have used Cain’s victory to combat the ignorant words of actor Morgan Freeman.  On Piers Morgan’s show on CNN, Morgan stated:

FREEMAN: Look at, look, the Tea Partiers…Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term. What’s, what does that, what underlines that? “Screw the country. We’re going to whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here”

(PIERS) MORGAN: But is that necessarily a racist thing?

FREEMAN: It is a racist thing.

Why would Republicans or members of the Tea Party think it necessary to vindicate themselves from the words of Freeman, who did nothing more than reiterate the tired Racer meme popularized by Garofalo and Keith Olbermann? When Cain was asked for his response to Freeman’s accusations, Cain pointed out the problem with Morgan’s statement:

“Most of the people that are criticizing the Tea Partiers about having a racist element, they have never been to a Tea Party…Name calling is something that is going to continue in this because they don’t know how to stop this movement and this movement is making a big difference in politics…”

Cain didn’t mention his race.  He didn’t mention being black.  He didn’t mention his skin color.  Cain did what Cain does: He focused on the statement, gave a thoughtful, straightforward analysis and moved on.

It is this candid, direct approach that is attractive to the American people.  Cain doesn’t make excuses; he proposes solutions.  He admits his mistakes, talks about what he is learning and focuses on giving America a clear set of rules, policies and procedures.  Cain does what Obama can not; walking the walk after talking the talk.

If there is anything to take from Cain’s impressive victory in the Florida Straw Poll, its that the mainstream media will not be deciding who the GOP candidate is.  The idea that America’s choices are reduced to Mitt Romney or Rick Perry are over.  Herman Cain has joined the top tier, and he got there with hard work, an engaging personality and a great message.  How long he stays there is up to Cain and the voters, not the MSM.

Journalism is Back!

Rep. Weiner

Here is my latest from Pajamas Media.com:

The story is not the photos. The story is the journalism — It’s back. And the MSM is finished.

As Weinergate broke and gained traction, a large majority of the MSM and leftist media stuck their heads in the sand. Joan Walsh of Salon.com savaged those who attempted to make this a story. On MSNBC, she seemed furious at Chris Matthews who — to his credit — would not let Walsh tie the reporting of Weinergate to the case involving Breitbart and Shirley Sherrod.

Others decided this is not a news story — it bores them. Former Clinton administration big-shot Paul Begala quipped to Anderson Cooper while pretending to yawn: “Wake me when we have a real sex scandal.”
