Racist Headlines and the race-baiting White House

Yesterday, on the Tony Katz Radio Show, I spoke with Transom author Ben Domenech about an article from Talking Points Memo that detailed President Obama’s re-election opportunities. and the need for Obama to court Hispanic voters.  Striking in the article was the amount of times that the term “uneducated white voters” was brought up. Listen to the interview

Ace of Spades has a write up of the same story, but a different article.  In the New York Times, Thomas Edsall wrote of the same Obama plan for re-election, which calls for abandoning working class (see “uneducated”) white voters. As Ace writes:

…Obama will “explicitly” “abandon” the “working class white” vote. That is the main point of the article, that the Democrats, though founded on the Working Class White vote, and though struggling for 30 or 40 years to get it back, is finally just giving up on this vote, and will attempt to construct majorities in the future without it — going for minorities, the young, “secularists,” and affluent whites.

As I discussed with Domenech, the upcoming election will be based solely and exclusively on class warfare and race warfare.  These are the unfortunate and unseemly by-products of an Alinsky-student President who has no record of worthwhile achievements to point to.

Yet, Ace adds a new wrinkle to the article; the Headlines.  It seems that Slate writer David Weigel thinks there is a racist element to how the story was handled….not by the New York Times (or one would assume TPM) but by Fox Nation.

Ace explains:

Anyway, because the NYT likes to hide Democratic losses from its Democratic readership, and finds talk of losing white votes icky, they gave the article the vaporous, soporific headline “The Future of the Obama Coalition.”

FoxNews saw the same article, noticed that the New York Times had given the article a deliberately non-informative headline, and so wrote about it themselves with an actually informative headline: “NYT: Obama Campaign To Abandon White Working Class.”

Headlines matter.  Headlines get you readers, page views and, you hope, increased advertising click-through rates.  Organizations have people on staff who are paid to write headlines they are so important.  Also important in a headline?  The story.  In this case, FOX Nation has the headline that does both.  It tells the story, and is extremely intriguing.  The NYT headline is a headline.  It can be taken as both telling the story and intriguing, but it is not as strong, or as honest, as the FOX Nation headline.  That does not make it racist.

The Rush To Race Is Ridiculous

Over the weekend, businessman and presidential candidate Herman Cain won the Florida Straw Poll with a very convincing 37% of the vote.  He more than doubled his nearest challenger, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and third place finisher, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Quickly, all the usual suspects weighed in on the significance of Cain’s victory. Much of the commentary focused on race. That GOP delegates in order to prove the party (and the Tea Party) isn’t racist, pushed Cain over the top.

Wrong.  Is the establishment GOP really that interested in proving to a hate-filled Progressive minority that they are good people who should be liked?  Are there members of the Tea Party who actually believe that Sen. Boxer, Sen. Schumer, Michael Moore, Janeane Garofalo, Rep. Frank or others will like them because they voted for a black man?

Cain’s strong win in the straw poll is not about race, it’s about Cain!

Cain offers specific solutions.  His “999″ Plan has taken hold; he is serious about reducing taxes. They see this in the shadow of President Obama’s $1.5 Trillion tax increase, and his continued attacks on productive society.

People have been leery – disgusted! – with Obamacare.  They have heard all the talk about the need to repeal, or at the very least, to defund Obamacare.  The personal story of Cain’s fight with Stage 4 colon cancer hit home with voters. They can visualize what their lives will be like under socialized medicine. Cain is alive because of an unencumbured health care system, where patients and doctors work towards success.  Cain is clear: He would be dead under Obamacare.  America was listening.

There have been some who have used Cain’s victory to combat the ignorant words of actor Morgan Freeman.  On Piers Morgan’s show on CNN, Morgan stated:

FREEMAN: Look at, look, the Tea Partiers…Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term. What’s, what does that, what underlines that? “Screw the country. We’re going to whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here”

(PIERS) MORGAN: But is that necessarily a racist thing?

FREEMAN: It is a racist thing.

Why would Republicans or members of the Tea Party think it necessary to vindicate themselves from the words of Freeman, who did nothing more than reiterate the tired Racer meme popularized by Garofalo and Keith Olbermann? When Cain was asked for his response to Freeman’s accusations, Cain pointed out the problem with Morgan’s statement:

“Most of the people that are criticizing the Tea Partiers about having a racist element, they have never been to a Tea Party…Name calling is something that is going to continue in this because they don’t know how to stop this movement and this movement is making a big difference in politics…”

Cain didn’t mention his race.  He didn’t mention being black.  He didn’t mention his skin color.  Cain did what Cain does: He focused on the statement, gave a thoughtful, straightforward analysis and moved on.

It is this candid, direct approach that is attractive to the American people.  Cain doesn’t make excuses; he proposes solutions.  He admits his mistakes, talks about what he is learning and focuses on giving America a clear set of rules, policies and procedures.  Cain does what Obama can not; walking the walk after talking the talk.

If there is anything to take from Cain’s impressive victory in the Florida Straw Poll, its that the mainstream media will not be deciding who the GOP candidate is.  The idea that America’s choices are reduced to Mitt Romney or Rick Perry are over.  Herman Cain has joined the top tier, and he got there with hard work, an engaging personality and a great message.  How long he stays there is up to Cain and the voters, not the MSM.

The Sickness of Cleaver’s Intellectual Dishonesty

Recently, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) lamented the situation of the nation, and specifically the inaction of the White House. Cleaver candidly told The Miami Herald:
If [former President] Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House…There is a less-volatile reaction in the CBC (Congressional Black Caucus) because nobody wants to do anything that would empower the people who hate the president.
Intellectual dishonesty is a disease.  It rots the mind; it rots the soul. Cleaver’s quip reminded me of Evan Sayet’s 2007 Heritage Foundation speech, “Regurgitating The Apple: How the Modern Liberal Thinks.” Sayet speaks brilliantly, offering tangible examples of the rot that intellectual dishonesty brings the purveyor. At one moment, (paraphrasing) he refers to the fact that liberals, in an effort not to be bigoted (for what could be worse than bigotry) will purposefully dumb themselves down so as not to acknowledge reality. How else, Sayet posits, can you explain the TSA’s decisions on whom to screen at the airport?
Cleaver’s comments are not new to the CBC or its members.  Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA,) who recently declared the Tea Party can go to hell and she’ll help them get there, voiced the CBC’s impatience with the Obama White House:
We’re supportive of the president, but we getting tired, y’all…We want to give [Obama] every opportunity, but our people are hurting. The unemployment is unconscionable. We don’t know what the strategy is.
Cleaver and Waters reflect America’s frustration: Obama isn’t doing anything right.  No one knows what his strategy is.  He needs a wake up call.  America is tired of waiting.

America has had enough. Enough of Obama’s failings on the economy, his blundering in the Middle East ahead of the UN vote for so-called Palestinian statehood, his overall ignorant foreign policy, the continual push for increased taxes, his constant politicking instead of leadership.

The Congressional Black Caucus, however, won’t allow themselves to take the next logical step – call Obama’s time in office a failure, and back a new candidate.  If that is too extreme for the CBC, certainly they could march on the White House, they could send their demands to the President on what must come next to secure a better tomorrow for our children.  The CBC could, should, (must?) engage the President, and point out his consistent failures so that they no longer plague the American citizens.

But because the President is black, the CBC turns the other way.  They admit they’re angry and frustrated. They admit that things aren’t going right.  They admit that there is no strategy.  At least some admit, according to Cleaver, that the president is a “failure.”  But rather than tell the president what they really think, they choose the path Sayet described almost five years ago, to intentionally dumb themselves down.

The CBC simply cannot bring themselves to chastise the first Black President.  They cannot allow themselves to be honest, because the color of their skin matches the color of his skin.  The CBC has chosen color over character.  They chose to be intellectually dishonest, because it sounds a lot better than what they really are.  Racist.

Martin Bashir won’t stand up to racism or attacks on Christians

MSNBC’s Martin Bashir is doing his best to be the next Keith Olbermann. In doing so, he does not respond to the outlandish, insulting lies of his guests. From my article on Pajamas Media.com:

Martin Bashir is a busy man these days. It is more obvious than ever that Bashir’s main role is to fill the void of former MSNBC nonsense mouthpiece Keith Olbermann…and that takes a lot of work.

On his show, Bashir had on Huffington Post contributor Frank Schaeffer to talk about a study that show 56% of Americans believe it is important for a Presidential candidate to have a strong religious belief. Bashir, right off the bat, asks this question:

Now, in secular Europe, people say that…religion plays no part in politics. How corrupting is the influence of religion on the political process in this country?

It’s almost laughable to have Bashir extol the virtues of a faithless Europe while simultaneously bashing the Judeo-Christian United States. As Europeans  (other than Bashir) will tell you, the faith of the United States is the reason they are all not under the thumb of Communism today.

Communism defeated, Europe saved. Damn world-saving Christians!

The answer from Schaeffer, however, is the focus here. Never underestimate the ability of a hard-core leftist progressive to stick to their talking points. Schaffer’s answer is rambling, and telling, and sick:

If you think the politics should be about facts, then religions can be very corrupting and is…the 86 members of congress who the Tea Party sent there with faith-based poltiics, rather than fact-based poltics. So, for instance, if there ideological commitment to the free market and to Ayn Rand and the Bible and this wierd mix that is the Tea Party tells them that it would be better to bring down the economy than to help the first African American President succeed, in an effort to delegitimize him, that’s what they do.

Bring on the Racer Alert! For the narrow minded progressives, how is it possible that the Tea Party can be focused on curtailing spending? How can the Tea Party push for a Balanced Budget Amendment? How can they be engaged in advocating for sound fiscal policy? The progressive will never accept the reality of the Tea Party position, and will do everything in their power to avoid a conversation, and to attack what they fear (like the truth!) So, Progressives like Schaeffer  and Bashir state that the Tea Party position is solely predicated on the idea that Obama is black and Tea Party members are racists. Nothing could be further from the truth, but progressives – and Racers – don’t care about the truth.

And, as for the idea that the Tea Party is about faith-based politics, not fact-based politics, it only shows that Schaeffer knows nothing about the Tea Party. The Tea Party is solely focused on The Four Basics – the constitution, capitalism, fiscal responsibility and smaller government. There is no religious litmus test for members of the Tea Party. However it’s the progressives that still push the well-debunked science of anthropogenic global warming, and it is the Progressives who shun those who don’t fall in line. Who’s really focused on the faith-based here?

But Schaeffer wasn’t done. He continued on his lying rant:

… I think a faith based politics is an immensly destructive thing….what do you think Iran, Saudi Arabia or the settlers on the West Bank of Israel who refuse to move and jeapordising world peace are thinking about..this is faith based politics, we want reasoned based politics. That’s what America doesn’t have right now when it comes to these Tea Party candidates.

Yes. Schaeffer has compared the Tea Party and the citizens of Israel to the regimes in Iran and Saudi Arabia. Is this the kind of smart people that the Huffington Post prides themselves in hiring? The Iranian government wants to wipe Israel off the map, shoots those who want free elections and believes that the Holocaust is a myth. Saudi Arabia doesn’t want women to drive, and won’t allow Jews in the country. Israel builds houses on their own land, allows for the practicing of all religions and they are jeopardizing world peace? That’s as flat out crazy as Rep. Nancy Pelosi saying that Democrats are trying to, “…save the world from the Republican budget. We’re trying to save life on this planet as we know it today.”

No one should be surprised with Schaeffer’s answers.  On his own blog, he proudly proclaims that he “predicted” terror from the religious right, and seems to be thrilled that Anders Breivik killed 76 people in Norway to prove his “theory.”  Of course, Olbermann-replacement Bashir does not refute Schaeffer’s Racer comments and religious lies, but takes the lies as facts, and moves forward with other questions. Bashir ends his segment talking about the majesty of the founding documents, and commenting on how Thomas Jefferson’s belief in the Creator was truly important.  One has to wonder why Bashir would end this way, while allowing Schaeffer to spew such hate?

The progressives will never be interested in facts.  Facts get in the way of their fantasies – like global warming and thinking its good, sound fiscal policy to raise taxes in a recession.  Schaeffer’s longwinded rant is proof that Progressives know nothing about “…fact-based politics.”  Bashir has proved that he is the natural heir to Olbermann.  He is petulant, rabid, lacking in intellectual might and is all together off-putting.  And when complimentary, is hard to believe.

That is a fact.

What will the Racers say about the South Central LA Tea Party

Since the inception of the Tea Party, its members – millions of Americans from all walks of life – have been battling the calculated and crafted lies that it, and its members, are racists.

We’ve seen the meme repeated and supposedly proven by a series of Racers, Racists and Race-hustlers, including Janeane Garofalo, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Al Sharpton, Van Jones and the staff at NPR.

What a shock and a surprise for them when it was announced on Facebook yesterday that Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson, a black man, is leading a Tea Party rally and protest, “…to expose the lies and misinformation of the NAACP in Los Angeles…” He even announced the formation of the “black led” South Central LA Tea Party. The event is scheduled for Sunday, July 24th from 2pm to 4pm.

If you don’t know Jesse Lee Peterson, he is what Hard-Core Leftist Progressives would call a traitor. For those of us who are actually accepting, Peterson is the founder of BOND – The Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny. The group, as identified by their Wikipedia page, is, “…dedicated to a conservative agenda among African Americans.” He is also the author of SCAM – How Black Leadership Exploits Black America. (Peterson is also the creator of the National Day of Repudiation of Jesse Jackson, just to add to his bona fides!)

Often, members of the Tea Party are asked to name, point out or show off members of color to prove that the Tea Party isn’t racist. That practice is absurd, as to start pointing fingers based on color takes away from the bigger picture; we’re all in this together! We don’t judge people on color, nor do we judge the legitimacy of our events or rallies by the number of black or brown faces in the audience. That is the purview of the Left! There is more openness and welcoming spirit at any Tea Party in America than there is at a Media Matters for America open house, or, as the NAACP recently purported, CNN.

But as the meme of racism from the true Racists, Racers and Race-Hustlers continues to exist, it’s important to notice that they (as a total group) are liars. They lie to the American people, they lie to the media and they lie to themselves. The Tea Party is not now, nor has it ever been, nor would it ever tolerate, racism. Racism takes away from the message of the Tea Party, which has always been the Four Basics – The Constitution, Capitalism, Fiscal Responsibility and Smaller Government, four subjects that effect all Americans regardless of skin color.

The creation of this new Tea Party in South Central LA is just more proof of the lies of Garofalo and company. And one wonders, with all of their pronouncements decrying the Tea Party over the last two years, if they would attend a Tea Party whose group of organizers are black? I know I will be there. Maybe now is a good time for Matthews, Sharpton, Garofalo and the rest to come on out, see what a Tea Party is all about and finally admit they have been lying about the Tea Party for years.

Will they show? You’ll have to be there to find out!
